Before the canals and the railroads, Lake George was an important link in the travel corridor from Montreal to New York City. This water highway also saw many wars: Indian & Indian, French & Indian, English & French and the Battle of Lake George.

In the Revolutionary War, in May of 1775, Fort Ticonderoga was seized from the English by Ethan Allen, Benedick Arnold and the Green Mountain Boys. This was the first American victory of the Revolutionary War.

In October and November of 2013 while working at Million Dollar Beach to improve parking, and access, artifacts dating back 6,000 – 8,000 years were unearthed.
